Sebastian Copeland
Biography
Sebastian Copeland has been described as “"a rare combination of accomplished fine artist, intrepid explorer and passionate spokesperson concerning climate change." As an award winning photographer, author, lecturer and environmental advocate, his work has been featured on CNN’s Larry King Live and Al Gore’s Current TV as well as in National Geographic, Vanity Fair, Sierra Club, Publisher’s Weekly, W Magazine, Elle, People and USA Today.
Sebastian published his first book Antarctica: The Global Warning, in 2007. The book-- featuring an introduction by President Gorbachev--received wide support with translations in five international markets. Sebastian was named Professional Photographer of the Year in the book category from the 2007 International Photography Awards among others. His fine quality prints have appeared in numerous galleries internationally, as well as at the United Nations, the Council on Foreign Relations and the Fields Museum (Chicago), Peaboby Essex Museum (Salem MA) and the San Luis Obispo Art Museum among others. His work can also be found in private collections in both the United States and Europe and several are now part of the permanent collection of The Natural World Museum in San Francisco.
A Summa Cum Laude graduate of UCLA Sebastian was raised in France and Britain to a family of highly successful artists. Relocated to NY in 1980, Sebastian began his career directing music videos and TV commercials. His clients have ranged from Fila, Old Spice, Pantene, Disney, Nintendo and Mennen amongst others. His celebrity and editorial stills work has appeared in hundreds of publications worldwide including GQ, Marie Claire, The Face, Cosmopolitan, Vanity Fair, and Elle magazine.
A personal commitment to fight for the protection of the environment has lead to a seat on the Board of Directors of Global Green USA and a relentless pursuit of a sustainable future. As an international speaker on climate for over a decade, Sebastian has been featured on television and radio (Larry King Live, Current TV, NPR) and has addressed audiences at the UN, the World Affairs Council, and the General Assembly on climate in front of President Gorbachev, as well as the George Eastman House and the Google and Apple headquarters.
Sebastian also serves on the board of Shine On Sierra Leone, a non-profit organization providing education for the children of war-torn nations.
Sebastian will release his second book Antarctica: A Call To Action in the fall of 2008. He currently lives in Los Angeles and drives a hybrid.
