Water – The Book – 23/09/2008

Water, a book length survey of the inaugural Prix Pictet, will be published in mid October by the renowned international publishing house teNeues. Water will be first presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair, however copies can be pre-ordered from the Prix Pictet secretariat.

Water, reviews the evolution and development of the Prix Pictet 2008, presenting text and images to communicate the Prize's global message on the issue of sustainability. The book showcases the 18 shortlisted artists alongside selected photographs by nominated photographers that best represent the vision of the prize and this year's theme of Water. There is a foreword by Kofi Annan, Prix Pictet's Honorary President, and essays by Francis Hodgson and Steven Barber, explaining the inspiration and ambition of the Prix.

The publication will prove an important asset to the Prix Pictet's environmental projects - 2008 sees the launch of the Chittagong Hill Tracts project in Bangladesh. Very simply the project aims to get safe water to the inhabitants of Chittagong through innovative irrigation methods. Royalties from the sale of Water will be used to fund the initiative, which will be documented by a shortlisted artist announced in Paris on 30th October.
