Simon Njami
Simon Njami is an independent lecturer, curator and art critic. He is the co-founder and chief editor of Revue Noire magazine, and works as a visual arts consultant for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ cultural branch – Cultures France. He also acts as an adviser to the Sindika Dokolo Collection, and is a member of the scientific boards of the Musée des Confluences (Lyon, France) and of the Musée de la civilisation et de l’unité réunionnaise (Saint-Denis). Njami is visiting Professor at UCSD (University of San Diego California), and has a PhD in Law and Modern Literature, as well as a MA in art history and philosophy.
Njami’s curated exhibitions include Die Andere Reise, Vienna, 1996; Les Rencontres Africaines de la Photographie, Bamako, 2001 and 2003; Up and Coming, ARCO, Madrid, 2003; the First African Pavillion at the 52nd Venice Biennale 2007; and As you Like It, the first African contemporary art fair, 2008.
Njami has published a number of books and has also worked in television and cinema.
