Jury

The Prix Pictet 2009 was judged by an internationally recognised panel of experts led by Francis Hodgson, Photography Critic at the Financial Times and the former Head of Photographs at Sotheby’s. Other members of the judging panel were Loa Haagen Pictet, Pictet & Cie's art consultant; Jan Dalley, the Financial Times' Arts Editor; Benoit Aquin, Winner of Prix Pictet 2008; Professor Sir David King Director, Smith School of Enterprise and Environment, University of Oxford and former Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government; and Fumio Nanjo, Director, Mori Art Museum, Tokyo.

The Jury look for photographs which best contribute to public awareness of issues involving sustainability. The subject matter is not tightly defined, nor is the technique used by the photographer. The judges are simply looking for original contributions that will, in their opinion, best use the resources of photography to communicate issues concerning the topic of the prize. No distinction shall be made between artistic merit and success in communicating the message.
